Keeping the wild wild

When we bought are place we saw the occasional deer, hawk, stray cat or dog. After cleaning up trash, clearing out invasive cedars, rotationally pasturing chickens and turkeys, then this past year cows. We have a budding ecosystem of critters.

In the past few months we’ve seen turkeys, bobcats, deer, coyotes and more on our game cameras.

Did you say bobcats and coyotes, yes, I did. But wont they eat your critters, its a possibility, but we have Oakie our live stock guardian dog. His presence alone is a deterrent, Generally his big boy bark is enough to keep predator away. Rarely does Oakie engage with a predator. We also have electric fences that keep our critters safe.

But how cool is it we have such diversity on such a small parcel of land. That raising food for our family and community doesn’t disrupt the ecosystem but allows for it to grow and flourish, under our stewardship

Why are you homeschooling your kids?

Here is a loaded question most homeschooling parents can relate to.

Why are you homeschooling your kids?

Every homeschooling parent I know has different answers. It could be because their state has a bad education track record, or  they couldn’t imagine sending their super sensitive 4 year old into a class of 30 kids and 1 adult. Maybe their child is gifted and is bored in a traditional schooling system, or they were homeschooled themselves and couldn't imagine doing anything else for their family or maybe their child has some very severe allergies and going to a traditional school setting would put their life at risk.  Whatever the reason, it's deeply personal, filled with lots of emotions. Yet its something homeschooling parents are asked alot, by like the lady at the checkout line at target or family members.

Isn't your child going to miss out on the school experience?

How are you going to socialize with them?

Are you sure you're qualified to teach your kids?

These questions, little digs at our choices, can creep in and make us doubt we’ve made the right choice for our families. Especially early on in the homeschooling journey, when you're just trying to see if this is going to work and you're experimenting, and it's hard. Maybe your kido is deschooling and there are alot of big feelings going around, or maybe you have a newborn and you've added this new little person to the mix. We are all just trying to figure out what works for our individual family and you're doing an amazing job, because you know your child, you know their needs, their strengths, their weaknesses, and how to challenge them.

Taking time to slow down, have quiet time together to read, to pull out the art supplies, turn on the music and just slow down, quiet the noise of outside options and listen to your intuition. Listen to those gut feelings of what direction your child needs while basking in their unique presence.

How will you carve out time to get in touch with your intuition?

Yes I am again going to tell you to get a pretty 3 ring binder. I am a binder girl! I have tried to use a folder and it wasn’t working.

Write down everything that needs to be done home wise in a day.

Write down you weekly tasks, monthly tasks, seasonal tasks and yearly. Then laminate it and 3 hole punch it and slap it in the binder.

This is the place where extra copies of the kids chore charts in case yours get legs and runs away.

This is a place for all those free printables you have about cleaning your house ect. I have a bunch too bud don’t worry about it.

In the comments let me know your top home organization tips and what you would put in your home management binder.

my four favorite cook books right now

This post contains affiliate links. If you use these links to buy something I may earn a commission. Thanks.

I have made serval recipes out of this book. They have all been hits. I’ve made the apple pie, the corn salad, the beef pasties, and the spicy meatball ball bake. The recipes are flavorful, easy to execute. I love this book because Mary, the author is a busy ranch mom there are lots of practical great recipes as well as beautiful holiday spreads. What I absolutely love is the cook book also includes precious DIYs, that have aboustely gorgeous results.

This cook book is amazing. The recipes are delcious, I love that she has a variety of ways to prepare the I made the creamy chicken gnocchi soup, and the broccoli cheddar with pretzel croutons. They both bowled my family over, pun intended and asked for them to be added to the regular rotation.

Simply Julia 101, has lots of great simple creative recipes. The book also talks about stocking you're pantry and the best staples to have on hand. She also discuses great ingredient swaps, and health consious switches. This is a great book if your learning to cook or are looking for some great recipes to add tp your rotation.

This book has changed the way i look at meal planning and grocery shopping. i pick a couple star items a veg, a meat and an herb or other vegetable. I base my meal plan for the week or fe days on that. I love how well laid out all the recipes are and how exact the instruction are for all the prep. its great only blown up your kitchen one or two days rather than every night.
